The Yeelight Mesh Downlight comes in a standard white cardboard box like most Xiaomi ecosystem products. In the box, you find the light itself and an instruction manual. That’s pretty much it.

Don’t let the lack of the contents disappoint you. The bulb alone is packed with enough technology to keep you amazed. All you need to do is set it up and use it.

Since the function is the primary concern with most down-lights, they are don't stand out and are pretty basic in design/aesthetics. However, Xiaomi has certainly given a minimalistic elegance to their Yeelight Downlight. So, although it doesn't stand out per se, it still blends into the background and improves the environment even if it's turned off.

• The Yeelight Downlight is made from ABS plastic and is white in color. It has a diameter of 10cm with a protrusion at the back which fits in the ceiling. You will need a 7 to 8 cm hole if your ceiling to attach the downlight.

Performance

When it comes to the performance, the Yeelight smart downlight is one of the best in its price segment. In fact, it's one of the best smart light when it comes to setting the mood and ambience. After having used these lights for a year, I can confidently state the performance both in the real-time and long term is solid.

When it comes to real-time performance, this smart light works seamlessly. I found that there was virtually no lag or stutters when controlling it through my smartphone. It's pretty much the same even when it comes to the automated commands and timers. As mentioned earlier, the voice control is extremely accurate. The speed can be primarily attributed to the Bluetooth Mesh Technology. Since it works on Bluetooth and not on Wi-Fi. The connection is more stable and fast.

The long term is just as good if not better. This smart light is extremely good at conserving energy. It efficiently utilizes electricity. So, not only does it help save a lot of money but it also helps improve the longevity of the filament and the bulb itself. This light managed to save me close to a 120$ across nine months. Which is pretty damn good, to be honest.

The Yeelight is overall a beautiful product. definitely more than worth your money. The range of control you have with a ceiling light like this is mind-boggling.

• True, the design of the light itself might not be super great but when it's blinded by its light you wouldn't care.
• The Bluetooth Mesh technology is smooth and hassle-free. It's either equal or better than wi-fi in terms of connectivity and control.
• The timers and automatic set up works perfectly and you definitely can't complain about the brightness or the massive color range.
• There is however an issue if you buy more than one light and set them on group control. While you can control when to turn it on or off you can't control the brightness or the colour of all the lights together.

Overall the Yeelight Smart Downlight a definitely worth it considering all the things you'll be able to achieve with a ceiling light.
