Design and Display

Redmi Note 8 Pro Price and Review

The Redmi Note 8 Pro is a mid-range smartphone in terms of pricing and this is why you would see a plastic frame instead of metal. The display is made of Gorilla Glass

  • There’s glass at the back that gives a very good finish that looks premium. It’s slightly curved and it’s very aesthetically pleasing. It comes in beautiful finishes such as Forest Green, Pearl White and Mineral Grey.
  • The back of the phone has the cameras and also the fingerprint scanner which is ridiculously quick.
  • Coming to the display it has a 6.53-inch 1080p display. It has a waterdrop notch bezel that lets the camera sit in the front. This phone at the outset looks like the iPhone X.
  • The phone also has a very fast facial recognition feature. The traditionalists will love the 3.5mm jack option.

Functions and Features

The phone is run by the latest Xiaomi MIUI 10. It sits on top of Android 9.0 (Pie). A lot of people believe that they should have waited for Android 10 to release and run the phone with that. The MIUI 10 is pretty intuitive and has a lot of gesture control and advanced features such as multitasking.

One con though is the lack of an app drawer, which means all your apps sit on your home screens. The latest Xiaomi phones and the Note 8 Pro to carries an IR blaster which you can use to control devices like Television sets and Air Conditioners.

The Note 8 Pro targets gamers as well with a dedicated chipset for gaming and a ‘Gaming Mode’ that transfers more resources towards the game you are playing. It has a vapor chamber that reduces heating on the phone too.

The chipset is a Mediatek Helio G90T with 6GB or 8GB RAM. Although this chipset might not be better or more popular than the Snapdragon 845. It’s still powerful enough and does a wonderful job.

Battery

A big display and a lot of features require a splendid camera and that’s what you get with the Note 8 Pro. It has a 4500 mAh battery. This battery beats the battery life of phones such as the A50 and the Huawei P30 by quite a margin.

It has a 18W  Quickcharge 4.0 which is not as fast as I expected it to be. I expected at least 50% in 30 minutes, but this phone charges about 39 minutes in the same duration.

Cameras

Xiaomi Redmi Note 8 Pro

The cameras will make everybody take notice. This is a triple-camera set-up with the primary camera being a whopping 64-megapixels. Along with that is an 8-megapixel ultra-wide camera and a 2-megapixel megapixel camera for macro pictures. The cherry on the top is the depth sensor.

Your average picture has a 16-megapixel resolution but you can choose to shoot with 64-megapixels that deliver incredible results.

The front camera is a 20-megapixel F/2.0 shooter. This is one of the best selfie cameras on a mid-range smartphone in the planet!

You can shoot 4k videos at 30 frames per second.

Xiaomi Redmi Note 8 Pro Price

The Redmi Note 8 Pro launched at 210 USD, for which it was a good deal. Two years later, the Redmi Note 8 Pro is still on sale and costs under 170 USD on AliExpress and a whopping $279 on Amazon.

For the AliExpress price, some might make the argument that it is worth it, but no, as you can get better phones for the same price. And anyone buying the Note 8 Pro at Amazon’s price should be insane. Overall, avoid the Redmi Note 8 Pro, unless it costs less than 140 USD in 2022.

Redmi Note 8 Pro Price and Review - Final Thoughts

This phone is a revelation and when they launched the phone I knew Xiaomi had a winner with the Redmi Note 8 Pro. In terms of the specs and the pricing they offer, it’s outstanding. There is none like it yet.

It has a fantastic battery life, a perfect phone for gaming which means overall it’s a smooth phone to operate and the cameras to die for.

The design and display are pretty epic and this looks more premium than it needs to be. If you want something new at a very interesting price, then look no further than the Redmi Note 8 Pro.

When you literally don’t have much to complain about when it comes to a phone that is priced for super cheap, then you know it’s worth talking about and considering.

The Xiaomi execs can be happy. They have another winner over here.

Pros

  • Great price
  • Stellar design
  • Superb battery life and performance
  • Good for gaming
  • Good main camera

Cons

  • The main camera is fantastic, but the performance of the other 3 cameras are average at best

FAQs

Is Redmi Note 8 Pro still good in 2022?

In 2022, the Redmi Note 8 Pro could still be a decent phone, but it might not be worth the price since it is 2+ years old now. The best bang for your buck will probably be the Samsung Galaxy M52, which looks very similar to the Note 8 Pro in terms of design but offers a bigger AMOLED screen, better camera, and a bigger battery.

Does MIUI 12 drain battery?

A common complaint with MIUI 12 was that it does drain the battery very fast. But on the other hand, MIUI 12 also comes with a built-in battery saver mode, so users can turn it on and save a lot of battery life from it. Battery saver mode can be found under Settings -> Battery.

Is Redmi Note 8 Pro bulky?

Yes at 161.4 x 76.4 x 8.8mm and 200 gms, it is a bulky phone, but that is the norm nowadays. Most phones easily touch 200 gms and are even thicker sometimes. So while the Note 9 Pro is bulky, it is not the only phone to be so.
